I started out with a plain brown paper mache Witch's Hat. I painted the entire surface of the hat with Pure Black acrylic Paint. I then covered the peak of the hat with the reverse side of the Goblin Gazette paper - I love the black paper with "Oz" all over it as the background for this project. I wanted this project to show the duality of Oz (i.e. Good vs. Evil) so I created a "Wicked" Side and a "No Place Like Home" side. I also wanted to be sure to include images of all the major players in the Oz story. The series of photos below shows the entire circumference of the hat so you can see how the sections flow into each other.
I love how the floral embellishment for this hat turned out. I used a combination of satin flowers, feathers and floral swirls to create the embellishment - which I attached to the brim of the hat with hot glue. Below are a few alternate views and a close-up of the floral embellishment.
