you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, & smarter than you think. ~ Imaginarium Designs

Today I am sharing the first of two projects created this month for Imaginarium Designs. I created this mixed media layout featuring a sweet photo of my son based on the April mood board at Scrap Around the World! I had lots of fun creating this one - hope you like it!
Here is the SATW mood board that inspired the layout:
I used the teal/aqua/white colour palette, as well as the nested circles and butterflies as design elements for my layout. To create the nested circles on my page, I freehand drew circles on the base page and then went over the circles with hot glue. I used a light coat of gesso and then three colours of Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Mists (Time Travel Teal, Shabby Turbine Teal, Edelweiss Moss Green) to create an "ombre" effect to the circles (the centre is really dark - though it ended up covered by my paper layers). I then misted everything with some watered down gesso to soften the colours. I also added some "cracks" to the page with Distress Ink in Black Soot and a Prima 12 x 12 Stencil. I also splattered the page with some Dylusions in Black Marble and some of the Lumiere paint that I used on the Hot Air Balloon chipboards.

Here are some close-ups!

For the Imaginarium Chipboards on this layout, I have used the following:
  • Hot Air Balloons - painted with Lumiere Light Body Metallic Acrylic in Halo Blue Gold
  • Spade Top Picket Fence - painted with white gesso and then Distress Crackle Paint in Rock Candy and then spritzed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow Mist in Tawny Turquoise
  • Butterfly Border - cut into individual pieces - painted with Viva Decor Maya Gold paint in Turquoise and then rubbed with Inka Gold Rubs in Cobalt Blue and Hematite. Next, I stamped the butterflies with a Prima Stamp and Black Ink and finally added some Ranger Stickles in Patina

Alice Art Journal Page - "Who are you?" ~ Scraps of Darkness

Today, I'm sharing an art journal page created in my new Art Journal that came in the Scraps of Darkness March "Radioactive" Kit - Creativity Add-On. I'm planning to do a series of "Alice" Art Journal pages - so I decided to kick it off with this one, entitled "Who are you?". If you are familiar with the Alice in Wonderland, you'll recognize this as a quote from the book - by the caterpillar to Alice.
I started with a sheet of watercolor paper cut to 5 x 7.5 in. to fit inside the Art Journal. I fussy cut the strips out of the Studio Calico Lemon Lush Analytics paper from the kit and randomly layered the strips on the base page. Then i added a light coat of heavy gesso using a credit card. Next, I added the fussy-cut Alice in Wonderland image using heavy gel medium (this works great as a glue/sealer). I used the Balzer Bits mask  by The Crafter's Workshop that came in the Creativity Add-on with some Art Anthology Velvet Dimensional paint in Limeaid. Once the paint had dried I used some Inka Gold in Cobalt Blue to highlight the stenciled area and randomly rubbed some around the edges of the page as well. I used the white foam letters from the kit and coloured them with Inka Gold in Haematite. Finally, I used the small feather stamps from the Creativity Add-On with some Lindy's Stamp Ganag Embossing Powder in Midnight Sapphire. I had so much fun experimenting and playing with the different art mediums creating this page! Here are some close-ups!

click it ~ Scraps of Darkness

Hello Scrappy Friends! I'm back with another layout created using the fantastic and fun March "Radioactive" Kit from Scraps of Darkness. This layout is based on this month's sketch by the talented Suepup.

I used some older photos from a trip to Niagara Falls that I went on with three of my very best girl friends back in 2008. I used "click it" as the title because it is so important to take pictures of special times like these! I had a lot of fun using different media on the layout - I started out with some gesso that I put on the base page using an old credit card. Next, I used five different colours of watercolour pencils and messily sketched two circles on the layout and then brushed over the cirles with a wet paintbrush to soften and blend the colours. I did some stamping with an awesome large rose stamp I picked up at Michael's and the small rose stamp from the Creativity Add-on. Finally, I used a Prima circles stencil with three different colours of Distress Ink (Worn Lipstick, Spiced Marmelade, and Peacock Feathers). All the papers on the layout are from the Studio Calico "Lemon Lush" Collection. The base paper is the Wordsmith page, and I used strips of paper and circles cut out of the Passionate and Impulsive papers for the coloured layering. Finally, I embellished with some chipboard and flair from the Prima Bloom Girls collection and some sequins from my stash. Here are some close-ups!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Wish Upon A Star ~ The Color Room - HeART & Soul and Scraps of Darkness

I am so excited to be designing for The Color Room - and this month is my first reveal as part of the Design Team for the newly revamped site. The Color Room has gone through some changes, with a change of name, reflecting the direction it is heading, an amazing new team, and loads of inspiration. In addition, The Color Room - HeART & Soul will be offering classes (for a small fee), all created by its very talented Creative Education Team, which will be launched very soon, so keep your eyes out for that.

TCR has merged with Scrap for Help (which was the brainchild of Cynthia Llorens) and we will incorporate a household item to use with the Palette, making the challenge even more fun, creative and 'green', using some of the throw away items in our crafting.

Welcome to the April 2014 release color palette release! You have an entire month to load your creations to the InLinkz tool in the sidebar of the TCR - HeART & Soul blog, to be in the running for the Monthly RAK. Just load BEFORE the 1st of each month!

The household item this month is clothing tags. These are so much fun to alter. You already have the base. just add paper, paint and embellishments and you have ready made accents for tour projects and they are great for cards! The colours this month are so fresh in our inspiration picture - there is a pale grey, a bright yellow, a beige colour and a dark charcoal/black. See what you can do with these colours this month!

Here is my layout inspired by this month's palette!
I used the Scraps of Darkness March "Radioactive" Kit for this project. The black cardstock is from my stash and the amazing yellow stars were created using using a Crafter's Workshop template with the Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Lemon Drop that was included in the SOD Colour Add-On. Also from the SOD Kit, I used two of the mini-washi tapes from the Embellishment Add-on (the yellow stars and black/white dot), the wooden shapes (as the neutral/tan colour) and the black/gold calendar circle. I thought the white foam letters from the SOD Embellishment looked a lot like Walt Disney style font - so I've used a Walt Disney quote as my title and a picture of my little boy asleep, snuggling his Disney "Thumper" toy. As the light grey element, I added some 'platinum' pearls from my stash. Here are some close-ups!
