Mini Mixed Media Canvas ~ Creative Embellishments and Canvas Corp Brands

Today, I'm sharing a mini (4x4) Mixed Media Canvas!

I started out with a 4x4 Stretched Canvas from Canvas Corp and layered Lace, Chipboard Elements from Creative Embellishments and a Resin Face Piece from Relics & Artifacts on the canvas. The Chipboard Pieces I used included: a Grunge Circle Frame, and two of the Circle Chain Frames. I painted everything with Black Gesso and then dry-brushed White Gesso on it to bring out some of the details. Next I started adding colour using Tattered Angels Mists (Chalkboard Mist in Jade and Glimmer Mists in Patina, Vintage Lace, and Suede). Once I was happy with the misting, I added the golden 'rays of light' using Tattered Angels High Impact Antique Gold Paint and Glimmer Glam in Golden Goddess. I finished off the piece by adding some Rose Gold wax to the lips of the resin face piece.

"Scorched Heart" Mixed Media 6x6 Canvas ~ Creative Embellishments

Today I'm sharing a mixed media canvas created for the Creative Embellishments Design Team! I'm calling this piece Scorched Heart.

I started out with a 6x6 canvas and used a Prima stencil and some Prima Art Extravagance White Crackle Texture Paste. Once the texture paste had dried, I added the a small tart tin that I had primed with Prima Art Basics Heavy White Gesso. Next, I started playing with colours to create the background - I've used Lindy's Stamp Gang February Colour Challenge Palette for this Canvas.

I used LSG Mists in Queen of Hearts Red, Pretty in Pink Pink and Dark Chocolate Truffle. I also used Prima Metallique Art Alchemy Gold Rush Acrylic Paint to add the gold-tone to the background and then inked the edges of the canvas with Distress Ink in Ground Espresso. 

Once I was happy with the back ground I added the altered Relics & Artifacts Flaming Heart on top of the Tart Tin. To alter the Relics and Artifacts Flaming Heart, I started by removing the jewelry rings from the two pieces and gluing them together. I painted the flames using Prima Metallique Art Alchemy Paints in Gold Rush, Fresh Orange and Rusty Red. I primed the heart with Prima Art Basics Heavy Black Gesso and then added a coat of Prima Art Extravagance Gold Crackle Texture Paste. Once the texture paste had dried, I sanded the heart to level out any bumpy areas and to add some extra distressing. Next, I painted the heart with a coat of Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint in Clear Rock Candy. Finally, when the clear crackle layer was dry, I misted the heart with the Queen of Hearts Red mist, allowing it to seep into the cracks and then wiped it off the surface. 

I used the smallest set of wings from the Fairy Wing Set 3 to add wings to the heart feature. I started off by embossing the wings with Lindy's Stamp Gang Embossing Powder in Golden Angel Wings and then adding some Vintage Gold Embossing Powder to the Wing Tips. The wings ended up being too light to suit the canvas, so I misted them with the Queen of Hearts Red mist and then added some Prima Metallique Art Alchemy Rusty Red Acrylic Paint to the Wings. I painted the wing tips with the Gold Rush paint and also lightly dry-brushed the gold over the red part of the wings.
To finish off the canvas, I added pieces cut from the Mini Quatrefoil 6x6 Panel. I inked the panel pieces with the Ground Espresso Distress Ink and then glued them to the frame. Wherever the panel pieces overlapped with the gold-tone in the background, I added some Prima Art Extravagance Gold Glitter using Ranger Crackle Accents. The glitter ended up being too . . . glittery. . . for the canvas so once it had dried, I painted over the glitter sections with the Gold Rush Paint to tone it down. I ended up loving the texture this gave to the gold sections of the panel!Thanks so much for visiting my blog today! Happy Crafting!

An Altered Wooden Rocking Horse ~ Creative Embellishments

Hi there! Today I'm sharing an altered project with you! One of my favourite things is to take something old and upcycle it - so when I saw this chipped/broken rocking horse at a second hand store, I knew I could make it beautiful again!

Along some buttons, trim and resin & metal embellishments from my stash, I've used Creative Embellishments Mini Frames (some whole and some cut into pieces) and the larger of the Fancy Oblong Frame Set (cut into two pieces) to decorate the rocking horse. I also added Relics & Artifacts Chivalry Wings and an Imperial Egg decorative piece as the headpiece. Once I had all the embellishments in place I covered everything with a few coats of heavy white gesso. Then, I used Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paints to highlight details of the decorations - the trick here is just to play with colour until you're happy! Lastly, I dry brushed areas with gold paint to give it a rich, vintage look. Lots of pictures below so you can see all the details!

Secret Garden Mosaic Egg Shrine

I have a 'just for fun' project to share with you today. I've used a Prima Relics & Artifacts Egg Shrine by Sandra Evertson and the gorgeous Graphic 45 Secret Garden collection for this project.

I chose a small version of the central image from the Secret Garden collection and cut it into pieces and pieced them back together for the mosaic image inside the egg. I used Prima Art Basics Soft Matte Gel to adhere the mosaic pieces to the egg.

Once I had the mosaic image pieced back together, I covered the image and entire front of the egg with Distress Crackle Paint in Clear Rock Candy. Then, I added the fussy cut fence, birds and flower branch to the front of the egg. I coated the fussy cuts with Prima Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel to give them some extra durability and a bit of shine.

Inside the egg at the bottom, I have added some decorative grass and some paper daisies from Wild Orchid Crafts. I used the Soft Gloss Gel and added some gold flakes (scraped from the back of the egg's decoration) and some Diamond Sugar Dust to the flowers to give them some added interest and sparkle.

Finally, I added in a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Key with a pretty little white bow made from seam binding. The key was added to represent the key that Mary Lennox finds in the book The Secret Garden - the one that allows her into the private garden. If you haven't already read The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, then I highly recommend you do - it's wonderful!

On the back of the egg, I started the decoration by using Prima Art Extravagance Texture Paste in Gold Crackle. Once it had dried, I scraped it away in places to give the egg a more aged/vintage look. Then I coated the back of the egg with Distress Crackle Paint in Clear Rock Candy.

 I used a resin window frame from my stash and fitted an image of Mary from the Secret Garden papers behind the frame. I also added some more of the gold flakes scraped from the back of the egg and a coat of the crackle paint to the window frame.

I wish you could see this little Secret Garden Mosaic Egg Shrine in 'real life' - it looks even more beautiful than in the pictures!
